Campaign for Political Representation for Expatriates

This Autumn… Call to Action .

A passionate debate is almost certain to commence in the House of Lords on 23rd October.
At that time a plenary session opens – The Committee Stage of the ‘Electoral Registration Bill’ .
The Lords are renowned for quiet gentlemanly and ladylike behaviour but behind that façade will run deep emotions. These are rooted in a fight for Democracy for British Citizens throughout the World.

Political Representation and Voting is a major route to justice. It is the bastion of a free society. Great numbers of Britons who live abroad have considerable links with Britain and its governance. In the Euro-money – Euroland – countries, there reside about 3.5% of all State pensioners – that is about 450,000. Elsewhere beyond the UK there are another 1 million. In total over 9% live outside the UK. They all are dependent on the UK for income. Nearly all carry strong ties with UK and are dependent on the Government and its decisions for themselves, their family connections, and above all for international treaty agreements where the UK holds itself responsible for its citizens but allows for no form of consultation with them. There is no Representation.

The situation is just as bad for the millions of Britons of a younger age who work for Britain abroad. The businessmen, workers for industry abroad, and charity workers. Many move from country to country but remain stolidly British. Very few indeed have not watched with pride the performance of team GB at the Olympics. Very few have not praised Bradley Wiggins – Wiggo – for his achievements. He, who must be a European at heart surely would be aghast at the manner in which the UK disowns his fellow citizens. Yet another supposedly European at heart who is fluent in Dutch and Spanish, that is to say Nick Clegg, suggests obliquely that if the expatriate wants to be politically active then he should take out the nationality of his host country. He can’t be serious! But he is.
After 15 years the Briton Abroad has no opportunity to vote for any MP at Westminster. Before that time limit the expatriate can vote for an MP in the constituency where he last lived. That can be cumbersome and difficult. Many can’t remember the post code of that address, which is essential for the process. The registration form to be filled each year is several pages long. The Representation before 15 years is pretty paltry, but at least it is an embryonic form of political representation. For most it is useless and that is why it often appears that the Briton Abroad does not care. Of course they care. They run parties on the Queen’s Jubilee. They argue the case for Britain with their neighbours. They are Ambassadors for Britain.

On October 23rd there comes an absolutely pivotal moment for a revolutionary change in British Democracy. Its importance cannot be too strongly emphasised. If the opportunity which arrives this autumn is missed, then democracy for the Briton Abroad may not come again for many years.

It is certain that Lord Lexden (Conservative) will table an amendment to remove the 15 year limit on the voting rights of all expatriates. When the Bill was before the Commons, a very similar amendment was introduced by Geoffrey Clifton-Brown – MP (Cotswolds) . Pressure from the Liberal Democrat leadership, caused him to remove it.
Could this amendment be similarly treated? Yes it could. The Coalition Government could denounce it. The Coalition Government could table a different amendment offering a different time limit. DISASTER! This is a real danger.
How can such proposals be aborted before birth? By a polite fury of many peers who can be persuaded to speak up for the Briton Abroad. We need them to feel as red as their seats at any such proposals of rejection of the amendment or change to the time limit. Only removal is acceptable.

Many Liberal Democrat peers who do not see eye-to-eye with their leadership could speak out. There is a murmur running in the Labour benches also gunning for the Briton Abroad. But we also recognise that they are die-hards like Lord Lipsey and no doubt followers of Nick Clegg who are against any change.

The Briton Abroad must steady the nerves of the peers and by a ground swell of feeling give the peers strength to speak out for us – for the British and for Britain.

Go – contact some peers – tell them what you think. Send this mail to them with your feelings. Here are your contact points.

The wave of attacks are aimed at English speaking people, who are more than 12,500,00 in numbers in Spain. The victims can only suspect the fraud by checking their monthly bill, which can go up beyond their expectation.

The fraudulent mobile phone app automatically deducts €1.40 each day, which will mount to €43 per month. Once the application is installed on the mobile phone, the fraudulent app starts to deduct money very day without any clue.

The number, which comes up on the mobile phone bill is 795400. Many mobile phone service providers have been affected by this fraud mobile application in Spain.

English speaking mobile users, who have fallen to this fraud have been swindled with hundred of Euros. Now, many people are coming to realize the fraud.

Since, Spain has closed its translator’s service for non-Spanish speaking people in police departments to report crime, EU Investigations have stepped up to help all those people affected by the fraudulent app by reporting their crime.

EU Investigations also encourages mobile phone users to report any scam directly to their company to avoid any delay. This way the crime can be detected in early stages and many other users can be protected.

Statements by Manuel Iturra

“It’s a big step forward in my career to be able to play for Málaga. I’m very proud to be part of the team, it’s a big responsibility, as well as playing in the Champions League. I hope to be able to live up to our expectations”.

“It’s been very positive so far. I didn’t know anyone beforehand, but the rest of the team have been amazing and really welcomed me. I was told that they’re a great group of guys, and it’s true! I haven’t really spoken to the coach a lot yet, though I hope to soon, to see what he expects of me this season”.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started, and creating a real momentum amongst the team. When I’m on the pitch I’ll never give up, and will fight until the very end”.

Statements by Oguchi Onyewu

“Málaga is a very strong team, and I’m going to give everything 100 per cent, and support the defence as much as I can. I’m really excited and eager to play football”.

“As a professional player, I’m always ready to face any challenge. When it comes to the League, Málaga can definitely stand up to teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona”.

“I’ve had the opportunity to take part in important competitions, but on a technical level, I think the Spanish League is the best in the world. It’s a real honour for me to be part of Málaga CF”.

“I think my strength and other characteristics can support the Málaga team, as well as my leadership qualities”.

Statements by Javier Saviola

“I’m pleased to be back in the Spanish League, it really is one of my favourites. It’s a special incentive, with top quality players that are recognised all over the world. I hope we all have a great season, I’m really eager to show what I can do”.

“Firstly, it’s great to be part of a Club that has grown so much, where the team plays excellent football and the coaching team has shown a lot of faith in me. The Club has worked so hard to achieve the success they’ve got now, and I hope we can continue with this great run of results, and show that we’re more than capable of participating in three competitions”.

“I’ve played here before with Barça and other clubs, but I’ve got some great memories of this stadium, how the fans really get behind the team. Their support really does help the players on the pitch, and motivates them to do their best”.

“I think everyone knows about the tough times the Club has experienced over the past few months. I had various conversations with the coach and team mates over summer, who were all very upbeat and positive, despite the difficulties. It certainly wasn’t a problem for me coming here, quite the opposite. I’m really excited about being a part of the team, and helping them as much as I can”.

“I always try to be cautious, and not always try to be the one to score. The main thing is to support the team in the best way possible. Expectations are quite high I think, both on a personal level and that of the entire team. I’m just focusing on playing great football so that the team can rely on me, and hope we score as many goals as we can”.

Fun in Tenerife

As you begin planning your next holiday, you might feel overwhelmed by all the destinations there are to choose from. On every corner of the globe, there is a unique spot calling your name. Sorting out which one most appeals to your interests is not always easy. Fortunately, there are a few factors to consider when making your choice: affordability, convenience, and fun. To return home from a trip having had no fun is a waste of time and money, so make sure you spend some time beforehand scoping out some sites to see, and things to do. You can’t go wrong by choosing the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands as your next holiday spot, because everywhere you look, you’ll find rewarding ways to spend your time. You can rest assured that you’ll never run out of fun in Tenerife.

As you’ll discover at Aqualand in Costa Adeje, the ocean that surrounds the island isn’t the only water worth splashing in. This family-friendly attraction has lots to offer, including a Dolphinarium that houses nearly 30 dolphins. You may want to swim with them or watch an exhibition show. If you merely wish to watch them swim around in their tanks, you can do that too. When you’re finished with the dolphins, you’ll want to change into your bathing suit and take advantage of the facility’s impressive water park! Enjoy a fun array of slides, rides, and pools.

Another way to get wet and have fun is to join in on a “Bob Diving” tour in the Playa de las Americas district. A Bob is an underwater scooter that divers ride around the reefs of the island. You get your air supply by sticking your head in a bubble for the duration of your jaunt. It is a perfectly safe adventure, and each small group is guided by professionals who are trained in operating and safety techniques. It is a bit pricey, and it is not suitable for young children, but if you do partake in Bob Diving, you are sure to have a blast whilst feeling like you are part of some futuristic movie.
Why spend your holiday shopping or laying on a beach when there is so much fun in Tenerife just waiting for you? Travelers of all ages and physical abilities will find activities that are suited for them, so there are no excuses! Make your trip a memorable one.
